INTEGRATED HEALTH FELLOW OF IFSO (IH-FIFSO)

Mission

Special recognition to an IFSO Integrated Health regular member in good standing, who has an active practice in the field of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and maintains participation in educational activities offered by IFSO.

A letter of good standing with endorsement by the national society has to be provided (the applicant has to declare that he/she is not under enquiry or any disciplinary action by the local professional body)

Requirements:

Applicant must:

  1. Be an IFSO IH member in good standing for the last 3 years
  2. Be practising as a healthcare professional in an active clinical practice in Metabolic/Bariatric Surgery for the last 3 years, OR be active for the last three years in research which supports the science and practice of Metabolic/Bariatric Surgery.

    Verification has to be provided by the national society/hospital/clinic/university or other relevant institution.
    Applicant must provide a current CV/resume detailing clinical work and/or contribution to scientific work (including a list of publications, where applicable) in Metabolic/Bariatric Surgery.

  3. Provide two letters of recommendation from IFSO Regular Members in good standing (with IH-FIFSO status preferably) who practice in the same country as the Applicant only using the online form: https://www.ifso.com/letter-of-recommendation/
  4. Have attended either one IFSO World Congress or two Chapter Congresses in the last 3 years OR Any service and/or leadership contributions in committee(s), role(s) in his/her local chapter committee, national societies OR Any specific significant advocacy contributions in the field of Metabolic/Bariatric Surgery, OR Any contributions to guidelines, consensus statements, or position papers of national, regional societies or IFSO-related.

    Proof of attendance (certificate of attendance) OR proof by national society of such contributions OR proof of publication has to be provided by the Applicant.

  5. Have at least one accepted (oral, poster or video) abstract as 1st or co-author OR have been an invited speaker at a National or International Congress /Meeting on Metabolic/Bariatric Surgery during the last 3 years, OR serve as part of the scientific committee or be a course director of country or regional National or International Congress /Meeting /Course on Metabolic/Bariatric Surgery within the last 3 years.

    Proof of invitation as faculty or for presentation and/or abstract acceptance has to be provided by the Applicant.

  6. Disclose that he/she is not an Industry/Corporate executive, employee or doing active dedicated work with a single corporation.

Withdrawal

The designation may be withdrawn prior to the end of the three year term in the event that one/more mandatory requirements are not met anymore, or in the event the Member is found to have falsified data.

Duration

The FIFSO status is renewable every 3 years providing the following:

  • a. Maintenance of IFSO Regular membership in good standing for the last 3 years
  • b. Documentation of active practice as stated above in #2 for the last 3 years
  • c. Documentation of attendance to IFSO Congresses as stated above in #4 for the last 3 years

Fee

The FIFSO status initial application is free of charge. Renewal applications every 3 years cost is $50 USD

Senior members

Senior IFSO members retired/not practicing who apply will receive exception to active practice participation requirements and will have to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to document that:

  • a. Was a regular member in good standing for a significant time
  • b. Was practicing in the field of Metabolic/Bariatric Surgery for several years
  • c. Should not be Industry/Corporate executive, employee or doing active dedicated work with a single corporation

Certificate

IH-FIFSO certificates, signed by the IFSO IH President, will be sent by email.

IFSO Chapters should not establish the status of IH-FIFSO, because IH-FIFSO is a prerogative of IFSO and can't be replicated at Chapter level.
