04 - Andrew Jamieson 2000-2001 Australia

Professor Jamieson was a pioneering MBS surgeon who was
instrumental in the formation of the Obesity Surgical Society of
Australia and New Zealand (OSSANZ). He was the principal
organizer of the seventh International Symposium for Obesity
Surgery (ISOS) meeting, that predated IFSO. During his
presidency, Jamieson’s leadership was instrumental in stabilizing
the structure and politics of the young IFSO organization. His care,
and steady hand helped to facilitate the growth of the newly
formed IFSO despite global cultural barriers that might have
prevented its flourishing. After his presidency, he helped steer
long-term policy, and harmony, on the IFSO Board of Trustees. As
Foundation Associate Editor of Obesity Surgery from 1991-2003,
Jamieson helped to establish the peer-review rigor that defined
the reporting of MBS outcomes. Jamieson was a founding
member of the Asia Pacific chapter of IFSO.

                                           05 - Martin Fried 2001-2002 Czech Republic
Professor Fried has been involved in MBS since the 1990s, and has
been a leader in MBS in the Czech Republic. In 1993, he became
the first surgeon in the world to perform a laparoscopic
non-adjustable gastric banding procedure. He led local task
forces to safely introduce standard laparoscopic protocols across
clinics in Eastern Europe. In 1995, Fried was one of the founding
members of IFSO, and was elected as the first congress president
of the initial IFSO World Congress in Prague. He was later elected
IFSO President, and has continued to serve in a leadership role as
Chair of the Board of Trustees, and in officially establishing the
European Chapter of IFSO. Professor Fried helped to found the
European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO), and was
one of the MBS scientists to create the Interdisciplinary European
Guidelines on Surgery of Severe Obesity, and the Interdisciplinary
European Guidelines on Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery in 2008
and 2013, respectively. Fried also helped to organize the first Joint
Congress of IFSO-EC and EASO, the European Obesity Summit
                                           (EOS 2016) in Gothenburg, Sweden.
