Preface
It is with great pleasure to present our IFSO Cookbook!
Our mission was to bring to our community, healthy recipes from around the world to share with
your patients, families and friends.
We believe that good nutrition is good medicine. Each of these recipes provided by individuals
from around the globe, are not only great tasting but nutritious too. When we eat good, we feel
good.
One of the essential aspects for successful outcomes in bariatric/metabolic surgery is the
commitment to a healthier lifestyle. An important part of these changes is the adoption of better
nutritional habits. Our patients often complained that in general, post-operative meals were
boring, monotonous and flavorless particularly in the first months following their procedure. In
effort to have better alternatives to post-surgical quality meals, we decided to ask our members
from five IFSO Chapters around the globe for wholesome and pleasurable recipes. The response
was amazing and shared in this book with interesting and nutritious recipes presenting unique
tastes and cultures from different parts of the world.
Our next step was to select the best ones and to present all them together in our IFSO Cookbook.
The recipes have been designed for surgical patients; however, each recipe can also be shared
with anyone looking for a good nourishment, extending the benefits of great nutrition-based
recipes for a well-balanced meal.
Our Integrated Health Committee dieticians, Mary O’Kane (UK-EC) and Silvia Leite Faria (Brazil-
LAC) have reviewed each recipe for nutritional information and guidance. We hope you enjoy
integrating these recipes into your healthy eating plan and healthy lifestyle.
We would also like to express our gratitude to each of the authors for their contributions.
Remember: We Are What We Eat!
Wishing you health and wellness,
Tracy Martinez (USA-NAC) Almino C. Ramos (Brazil-LAC)
