EPILOGUE
Khaled Gawdat
We owe a debt of gratitude to Professor George Cowan, IFSO’s first
historian. At the very beginning, Dr. Cowan had a keen sense of the
potential impact of this new field and recognized the importance of
writing its story.
George Cowan
Dr. Jaime Ponce is the IFSO President-Elect for 2026-2027. He was
President of IFSO-NAC from 2021-2024, and is the current Vice Chair
of the Corporate Committee, and an active member of the Board of
Trustees. Dr. Ponce is an outstanding MBS surgeon with an interest in
multimodal medical care who will guide IFSO into its next chapter.

The current history book is an invitation to the next generation
to continue chronicling the growth, contributions, and spirit of IFSO, an
organization that introduced the discipline and benefits of metabolic
bariatric surgery to the world.
